Pick up equipment: The gym isn’t the only place for weights. Many pools offer water equipment including weights noodles and paddleboards to add resistance training to your workout. Try aerobics: Water aerobics classes can teach new and different ways to work out in the water beyond freestyle lap swimming. Go for a walk: Alternating laps with walking up and down a lane is a good way to work out different muscle groups. Have some fun: You don’t have to stick to laps or any other specific water workout. Sometimes just hopping in the water floating on your back or playing like a little kid again are enough to burn stress and calories.

Gone are the days of step aerobics. Classes in Zumba hula hooping and belly dancing are here! Below are just a few of the many “new aerobics” classes you may find popping up at your local gym or fitness center. While you're having fun you'll reap health benefits which may include: Building muscle strength and tone Conditioning cardiovascular system Increasing bone density Lowering blood pressure Increasing serotonin levels decreasing depression Burning calories for weight loss Improving balance Boosting your immune system Improving flexibility which can also help prevent injury Zumba The word zumba is Spanish slang for “to move fast and have fun. ” It was created in the mid-1990s by a celebrity fitness trainer from South America Alberto “Beto” Perez. Inspired by the traditional music he grew up with he paired his favorite Latin rhythms with salsa and meringue dance steps – and Zumba was born.
