The study showed a 60per cent improvement for people with chronic backache who took part in a 16-weekexercise programme using dumb bells barbells etc. Conversely people who doaerobics like jogging walking on a treadmill or used an elliptical machine toease backache only experienced a 12 percent relief said Robert Kell assistantprofessor of exercise physiology at the University of Alberta Augustana Campus. Grant gets teachers moving

With the help of a $2300 grant from the SIA Foundation Bratcher was able to purchase exercise equipment for her class of teachers who come from nearby schools and meet three days a week. The equipment including 20 steps barbells and exercise mats is also being used by students in their gym classes. The Journal & Courier talked to Bratcher about the program. Question: How did you get started on the grant?Answer: I was teaching at a local health club.

“Father of Aerobics” to speak in Knoxville

Cooper who is credited with launching the aerobics movement will present “Achieving a Lifetime of Good Health while Lowering Healthcare Costs” on Jan. 29 at the Knoxville Convention Center. The forum will also include a panel of Knoxville-area business leaders who will discuss how they have reaped the financial benefits of helping employees become healthier. The Boling endowment which was revamped last year was created by former University of Tennessee President Edward Boling to bring together the hospital and business communities to discuss health-care issues.
