It wasn’t until she was a student at USF (where she earned her undergraduate degree in health education) that she discovered a workout she really enjoyed: aerobics. "I showed up the first day of class without any gym shoes because I had thrown them away — I actually took that class in my socks. " Her love-at-first-sight relationship with aerobics burgeoned into a lifelong passion for fitness. After receiving multiple state and national certifications she taught aerobics classes at Shapes Lifestyle Family Fitness and Calta’s Health and Fitness. She also teaches fitness classes at Tampa Bay area corporations and senior centers. This year she quit her job as a health teacher at Pasco High School to cultivate her in-home personal training business full-time. Brucker who is married and has a 10-year-old son lives in a modest cottage-style house overlooking a cypress preserve in a Land O’Lakes subdivision.

Exercise can help lessen pain increase range of motion and improve overall health. People with arthritis can and do participate in such activities as swimming yoga cycling and aerobics. The key experts agree is to keep moving on a regular basis and the sooner you get started the better. During an aquatics class on a recent Friday the grandstand seats near the Y’s pool have the usual assortment of bathers’ towels and water bottles. Less than usual are the canes walkers and the occasional wheelchair. In the pool instructor Donna Lewis leads the class in stretches and light aerobics ranging from toe stands and squats pacing the width of the pool to finger stretches to promote manual dexterity.
