Fitness for a lifetime
deccanherald.com – Apr 12, 2008
This has led to problems relating to poor posture and weak spine. How often do you feel your neck and shoulder muscles tightening after a few hours of working on your computer? Or if your work involves a lot of travel, do you feel your back stiffening or aching? Today exercise programmes are not just to ‘fit in’ to a certain image, but also to improve quality of life. ”

Says aerobics instructor and Olympian judoka Najib Aga who owns Energy fitness centre in Vasanthnagar, “Fitness is important for your well-being. We all lead very stressful lives these days. And everyone wants instant gratification in everything. But there are no quick fixes in fitness. Fitness has to become part of your daily routine… It could mean walking to the supermarket, taking the stairs at work, or playing with your children. But it is important to include some formal exercise at least three days a week. There are so many activities to choose from – gym, aerobics, yoga, tai chi, pilates, dance, martial arts and sports," she says by way of suggesting options. Najib, however says climbing stairs and doing chair exercises at your workplace are fine to keep your muscles from becoming stiff, but they don’t provide enough exercise as such. “I wouldn’t recommend them in isolation. You need to give yourself 30-45 minutes for exercises everyday. You can jog in a park nearby, but if that is not an option then head to the nearest gym at least thrice a week.

Partners in a dream
San Diego Union Tribune – Apr 12, 2008
There are other African-American ice dancers, but they don't have African-American partners. Kassy and Justin are beginning a new season of competition, moving into a new and tougher realm where hundreds of hopefuls compete to become one of the three teams the United States sends to the Olympics. To get there, they endure hours and hours of practice, aerobic workouts, weight training, ballet and ballroom dance lessons. Their next big competition is the Lake Placid Ice Dancing Championships in New York starting July 30. Justin was a recreational skater, hitting the ice for fun. Kassy was way ahead of him. “At 13 or 14 he decided he liked skating and he wanted to pursue it,” his mother, Becky Ross, recalls.

Special Gym Caters to Muslim Women, Bans Body Cult
Deutsche Welle – Apr 12, 2008
The city of Cologne is a true melting pot, with one of the largest Muslim populations in Germany. In the Ehrenfeld city district, Muslim women who want to be physically fit can follow the lead of female personal trainers at the “Hayat” (which means “life” in Turkish) gym and still keep their clothes on. Whether it’s running on the treadmill, rowing on a machine, or doing aerobics to Turkish pop music, trainers Emine and Yasmin do their best to help modestly dressed Muslim women get in shape. The fitness crowd does not just have access to a full range of gym machines and exercise bikes, they can also take a break in the prayer room.

EDF Energy Cup final as it happened
BBC News – Apr 12, 2008
The world’s gone mad. 1414, from Phil H: “Martin Corry and the rest of his Leicester players are being asked to go through a mildly amusing wam-up routine. There is more of a hint of the mid-80s aerobics class about it, and it looks like it may well be being led by a girl. I can’t be sure, but whoever it is has certainly got a ponytail. Whatever next?”

1410: A little chat for you from Austin Healey and Jonathan Davies pitchside. “The two best sides in the competition are in the final,” says JD. 1402, from Finbar via text: “Congratulations to Chester for the win this morning in the first game – my brother played second row! Come on Leicester!”

1356, from Phil H again: “Saints captain Bruce Reihana climbs up the Twickenham stairs to lift the trophy for his side.

A Question for the Ladies
San Francisco Chronicle – Apr 12, 2008
Posted By: lepus_v | April 12 2008 at 03:41 PMI work at a non profit and a few years back I was sitting at my desk and a couple of other female co-workers were in the vicinity and a great dance song from the 80’s came on and I turn the sucker up and we al got up from our desks and started dancing. SO I guess it does happen. Why does this sound so unusual???????Posted By: Gearhead | April 12 2008 at 03:59 PMI echo Gearhead: why does this sound so unusual? Is it just because men don’t get up and dance?Posted By: Nberkeley | April 12 2008 at 04:21 PMWhen I was in my 30s, Aerobics was the thing to do. So, this probably for sure would’ve happened, and could’ve happened!Posted By: Debbyrebel | April 12 2008 at 04:38 PMPlay the old disco song “I Will Survive,” and I’ll guarantee all the women will get up and dance. They’ll know all the words, too. Don’t ask me to explain it. It seems to be instinctive.

Both men and women have PC muscles. Like any muscles in the body, the PC muscles can become weak for many reasons, such as childbirth, old age, severe weight loss, radiation treatment for cancer, etc. Here are four tips to find your PC muscle: Try to stop the flow of urine when you are sitting on the toilet. If you can do it, you are using the right muscles. Imagine that you are trying to stop passing gas. Squeeze the muscles you would use.Related: Fitness for a lifetime [...]
